Traffic Engineer – Tysons, VA

About the Opportunity
A well-established transportation consulting firm in Tysons, VA is seeking a Traffic Engineer to lead traffic design and analysis projects. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional looking for long-term career growth into senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage traffic design projects, including traffic signal, lighting, pavement marking, signing, and maintenance of traffic (MOT)/detour plans
  • Prepare technical studies, such as traffic impact analyses, site access evaluations, and circulation studies
  • Conduct signal warrant evaluations, design exceptions/waiver documentation, and proposal development
  • Collaborate across teams, attend and lead project meetings, and coordinate with local offices
  • Work closely with clients and stakeholders to provide strategic transportation planning solutions

Required Qualifications
  • BS in Civil Engineering (or related field)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain 
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in transportation engineering, traffic studies, or civil engineering
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities
  • US work experience required (must have a degree from a US institution)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)
  • Experience with traffic design projects
  • Previous work experience at RK&K, Kimley Horn, AMT, Gorove Slade, or similar firms is a plus

Additional Details
  • Salary: Highly Negotiable based on experience / licensure (~ +/- $90,000--$130,000)
  • Employment Type: Full-Time, Contract-to-Direct or Direct Hire
  • Location: Tysons, VA 22102
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 1st Shift (40 hours/week)
  • Travel: Occasional local travel
  • Work Attire: Business Casual
  • Background Check: Yes (5-year check)
  • Drug Screen: Not required
