Job Summary: We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Structural Engineer seeking a unique challenge. This role does not require design work but instead focuses on reviewing existing designs for renovations and new builds. Under the general supervision of a Senior Structural Engineer, the Structural Engineer evaluates and reviews designs, drawings, and specifications for new buildings, structures, and renovation projects. This position serves as a point of contact for construction projects, ensuring compliance with applicable state building codes and local and federal laws.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review schematic designs, design development, and construction documents for new buildings, structures, and renovations.

  • Conduct quality control checks to identify errors, omissions, inconsistencies, and interdisciplinary coordination issues.

  • Ensure construction documents comply with applicable building codes, local, state, and federal laws.

  • Prepare written comments detailing ambiguities and errors in construction documents and make recommendations for modifications as needed.

  • Participate in project meetings with Architects, Engineers, and other stakeholders regarding design and construction documentation.

  • Conduct on-site reviews of structural components and provide follow-up reports to resolve any compliance issues.

  • Review plans and specifications for alignment with generally accepted engineering and design principles.

  • Provide technical training and expertise to internal teams and personnel.

  • Independently review complex projects in an expeditious manner.

  • Coordinate review workflows across disciplines, including Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical, and Fire Protection.

  • Perform forensic analysis and building assessments, providing written reports and recommendations as needed.

  • Stay current with industry developments, regulations, and best practices.

  • Foster a teamwork environment by mentoring junior engineers and facilitating industry-related training.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a structural focus.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.

  • 4+ years of experience in structural design, construction document preparation, and review for commercial, municipal, or similar buildings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with plan review for local municipalities or state governments.

  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering.

Work Environment & Benefits:

  • The position is part of the Design Review group within a government commission, consisting of a 12-member review board.

  • Candidates should be comfortable with a non-design role focused on reviewing structural plans.

  • Work-life balance is a strong selling point; the position is a standard 8 AM - 5 PM schedule with no required overtime.

  • Stable and low-stress work environment compared to private MEP or A&E firms.

  • Opportunities for remote work on a hybrid schedule after transitioning to a direct-hire role.

Job Details:

  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM (with flexible start time of ±1 hour)

  • Work From Home: No remote work while on contract; hybrid schedule available after direct hire.

  • Pay Range: $43-$48/hour (not exceeding $100K annually upon direct hire)

  • Background Check: Required (no limit on history; felonies reviewed case-by-case)
