Structural Drafter / Designer – Vertical Construction

Pay Range: $25–$35 per hour
Assignment: 6-Month Temp-to-Direct (Direct hire possible)
Overview
An established structural engineering firm is seeking a Structural Drafter / Designer to support vertical construction projects across multiple building types, including medical facilities, educational buildings, retail centers, mixed-use developments, religious structures, and automotive dealerships.
This role is ideal for a detail-oriented drafting professional with 3+ years of structural drafting experience who enjoys collaborating closely with engineers to bring building designs to life. You will play a key role in translating architectural plans and client-provided sections into accurate structural drawings that enable engineers to design safe, code-compliant buildings efficiently and on schedule.
The firm’s smaller, highly collaborative environment allows for strong communication, quick decision-making, and hands-on involvement in a wide variety of projects. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
• Read and interpret architectural plans, elevations, and sections provided by clients
• Set up drawing sheets and organize project documentation
• Lay out building plans and elevations for structural design development
• Cut and draft structural sections required for engineering analysis
• Develop detailed structural drawings using AutoCAD and Revit
• Translate architectural intent into structurally sound framing and support layouts
• Collaborate directly with Engineers to ensure accurate and timely project completion
• Assist Engineers with drafting updates, revisions, and coordination tasks
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining deadlines
• Communicate clearly regarding project requirements, expectations, and timelines
Required Skills and Qualifications
• Proficiency in AutoCAD
• Proficiency in Revit
• 3+ years of drafting experience with an emphasis on structural drafting in vertical construction
• Ability to read and interpret architectural plans and sections
• Ability to draft structural elements required to ensure building integrity
• Strong communication skills and ability to understand project requirements
• Ability to work both independently and under direction of Engineers
• Flexibility to manage multiple active projects at once
Preferred Skills
• Experience working in a structural consulting firm
• Exposure to medical, educational, retail, mixed-use, or commercial building projects
• Strong understanding of building construction methods and structural systems
• Experience coordinating with architectural and MEP disciplines
