PLC Technician – Traveling Field Service (Industrial Controls & Automation)

Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, highly motivated PLC Technician for an immediate direct hire opportunity based out of Louisville, KY. This is not your typical maintenance role—this is a road warrior position (80–100% travel) supporting complex industrial systems across the country.

In this role, you’ll be on the front lines troubleshooting, modifying, and optimizing PLC-controlled systems tied to large-scale rotating equipment and high-temperature industrial processes. If you enjoy solving problems in the field, working on powerful equipment, and figuring out why systems fail—and how to fix them—this is an opportunity to build a highly specialized and rewarding career.

Location: Louisville, KY (training/home base)
Pay Rate: $27 – $30/hour + overtime (time and a half)
Travel: 80–100% domestic (all expenses covered + per diem)

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot, modify, and support PLC systems (Allen-Bradley and Siemens) in field environments
  • Assist with PLC programming updates and system improvements
  • Perform electrical and instrumentation troubleshooting on industrial equipment
  • Support HMI development and interface troubleshooting
  • Diagnose and repair issues on large rotating equipment such as kilns, dryers, and burners
  • Read and interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints for troubleshooting and repair
  • Assist with control panel builds, wiring, and on-site system integration
  • Perform multi-craft maintenance tasks across electrical and mechanical systems
  • Travel to client sites nationwide to support installation, commissioning, and repairs
  • Work extended hours in the field (10–12 hour days typical during travel assignments)
  • Collaborate with engineering and service teams to resolve complex technical issues

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience as a PLC Technician or similar role
  • Strong troubleshooting experience with PLC systems (Allen-Bradley and Siemens)
  • Experience with HMI systems and basic development or modification
  • Solid background in electrical and instrumentation troubleshooting
  • General industrial maintenance experience with an electrical focus
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical blueprints
  • Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision
  • Willingness and enthusiasm for extensive travel (80–100%)
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a “figure it out” attitude

Preferred Skills
  • Multi-craft experience (both electrical and mechanical maintenance)
  • Experience working with rotating equipment such as kilns, dryers, or mills
  • Background in combustion systems or high-temperature industrial processes
  • Experience with panel building, wiring, and field commissioning
  • Previous field service or travel-based technical role

Why This Opportunity Stands Out
  • High-travel role for those who enjoy working in the field and seeing new environments
  • Opportunity to work on massive industrial equipment and advanced control systems
  • Competitive hourly pay with significant overtime potential
  • All travel expenses covered, including lodging, transportation, and per diem
  • Direct exposure to complex troubleshooting scenarios that accelerate skill development
  • Immediate hiring need with strong long-term demand
