This junior-level Mechanical Engineer role focuses on the design and development of HVAC and Plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, and government facilities.
You’ll work alongside licensed Professional Engineers and experienced designers in a highly collaborative 10-person mechanical team (within a 20-person department), gaining hands-on experience while developing coordinated construction documents for diverse and impactful projects.
This position is ideal for an engineer with 1–4 years of relevant experience — or a strong internship background — who is confident they want to build a long-term career in MEP consulting and pursue professional licensure.
With structured mentorship, exposure to real-world building systems, and a clear path toward PE licensure, this role offers both technical depth and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist in the design and layout of HVAC and plumbing systems under the guidance of licensed engineers
• Perform engineering calculations including heating and cooling load analysis, ventilation calculations, and equipment sizing
• Support HVAC system design including air distribution, hydronic systems, and equipment selection
• Assist in plumbing system design including domestic water, sanitary, and storm systems
• Develop coordinated construction documents including drawings, schedules, and details using industry-standard software
• Collaborate with architectural, structural, electrical, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions
• Participate in design reviews and quality control processes to maintain accuracy and consistency
• Support project planning efforts, scope development, and schedule adherence
• Assist with construction administration tasks including responding to RFIs and reviewing contractor submittals
• Learn and apply applicable codes, standards, and best practices related to mechanical building systems
Required Skills and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• 1–4 years of experience in HVAC design, plumbing design, or MEP consulting (strong internship experience considered)
• Fundamental understanding of HVAC and plumbing building systems
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Excel
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary environment
Preferred Skills
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
• Strong interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
• Exposure to applicable building codes and standards such as IMC, ASHRAE, and IPC
• Experience with load calculation or energy analysis tools
• Internship or co-op experience within an A/E or MEP consulting firm
• Desire to grow within a collaborative, team-driven engineering environment
