Low Voltage Designer
Location: Madison, WI (53703) or Waukesha, WI (53188)
Schedule: Hybrid (2–3 days in office; must live within 60 miles of either office)
Employment Type: Direct Hire
Compensation: $80,000 – $108,000 (salary, based on experience)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Low Voltage Designer to join our integrated team of architects, engineers, and interior designers. In this role, you’ll work on a diverse range of projects across science + technology, commercial, higher education, and civic + cultural sectors. You’ll be responsible for designing comprehensive low-voltage systems, coordinating across disciplines, and mentoring others on best practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Design: Develop and document low-voltage building systems in coordination with architecture and engineering teams.
  • Project Documentation: Prepare system drawings and specifications throughout all design phases, from pre-design to construction administration.
  • Telecommunications: Design inside and outside plant infrastructure including optical fiber, copper cabling, equipment rooms, data centers, and grounding systems.
  • Voice & Data Systems: Implement VoIP solutions and optimize wireless access point layouts using Ekahau Wi-Fi Optimization software.
  • Security & Surveillance: Design access control systems integrated with door hardware, and plan video surveillance camera layouts.
  • Acoustics & Communications: Develop solutions for sound masking, public address, mass notification, rescue communication, and building clock systems.
  • Construction Administration: Support site visits, collaborate with contractors, and prepare observation reports.
  • Client Engagement: Work directly with clients and coordinate with Internet Service Providers.
  • Quality Control: Ensure designs meet project goals, industry standards (BICSI, TIA/EIA, NEC), and company quality benchmarks.

Required Qualifications
  • BICSI RCDD Certification (required)
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in technology systems design
  • Proficiency with BIM, Revit, Ekahau, and Speclink
  • Strong experience with:
    • Telecommunications (facility and campus)
    • Sound masking systems
    • Electronic access control
    • Video surveillance
    • Public address and rescue communication systems
    • Clock and mass notification systems
  • In-depth knowledge of BICSI, TIA/EIA standards, and the National Electrical Code
