Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented GIS Technician to join our engineering support team. This role provides an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or individuals with limited experience who are eager to grow in the GIS field. As a GIS Technician, you will work closely with the engineering department to update and refine GIS maps used in utility infrastructure projects, primarily supporting the planning and construction of power lines and related assets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to determine necessary map updates for construction projects.
  • Use ArcGIS (with a focus on ArcMap) and AutoCAD to make precise modifications to GIS maps, ensuring they reflect current field needs.
  • Produce and distribute physical prints of updated GIS maps to construction crews to guide field operations.
  • Manage and maintain GIS data for accuracy, consistency, and quality control.
  • Assist with spatial data collection, analysis, and visualization to support utility projects.
  • Conduct quality assurance checks on GIS data to ensure it meets internal standards.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, or a related field (relevant coursework in GIS highly preferred).
  • 0-3 years of experience in GIS mapping or a similar role; recent graduates with relevant training are welcome.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS, particularly ArcMap, and familiarity with AutoCAD.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Good communication skills to liaise with team members and accurately interpret project requirements.

Schedule and Compensation:
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 10-hour shifts with optional overtime available on Fridays.
  • Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour.
  • Term: 6-month temp-to-perm position, with potential for a permanent role based on performance.
