Civil / Structural Engineering Manager

Location: Akron, OH
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: $115,000 – $150,000 (commensurate with experience)
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced and driven Civil / Structural Engineering Manager to lead our civil/structural team and serve as a senior technical expert across multi-disciplinary projects. In this role, you will provide strategic oversight, mentor team members, and ensure high-quality project delivery within scope, budget, and schedule.
This position is ideal for a Professional Engineer who thrives in a leadership capacity and enjoys balancing design responsibilities with department management.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical & Project Leadership
  • Serve as lead Civil/Structural Engineer on complex, multi-discipline projects.
  • Provide advanced design expertise in steel structures, concrete, foundations, and masonry.
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and approval of civil/structural drawings and calculations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, engineering standards, and client requirements.
  • Review contractor bids, create bid tabulations, and support construction teams with field issue resolution.
Team Management & Development
  • Supervise and schedule civil/structural department personnel.
  • Conduct performance reviews, mentor team members, and support professional development.
  • Participate in interviewing and hiring processes; foster intangible skills (e.g., emotional intelligence, dependability, versatility).
Operational Excellence
  • Maintain and improve department procedures, standards, and digital tools.
  • Promote efficiency through continuous improvement in design and drafting workflows.
  • Coordinate effectively across project teams, clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 10+ years of experience in industrial sectors (e.g., Chemicals, Petrochemicals, Polymers/Resins, Manufacturing)
  • Proven ability to provide PE seal for permitting processes
  • Strong knowledge of applicable building codes and civil/structural design principles
  • Project management experience in civil/structural engineering
  • Ability to perform fieldwork, including work at heights
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, STAAD, STAAD Foundation, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam

Preferred:
  • Familiarity with Revit, Navisworks, Tekla Tedds, Hilti PROFIS, RAM Elements, or similar software
