Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an customer service focused candidate interested in a career in the Utility industry as a Designer. The purpose of the Distribution Designer 1 position is to apply technical skills to design safe, cost effective and reliable distribution power facilities for residential and commercial facilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Prepare project and job packages that include material lists, requisitions, labor estimates, site drawings and construction drawings for various installations of electrical facilities in a cost-effective manner that maximizes safety and service reliability. 
  • Read and interpret blueprints, maps, change orders, improvement plans, construction specifications, procedure manuals, operational procedures, etc. 
  • Perform drafting work and assist in the preparation of designs, plans and reports. 
  • Make accurate engineering calculations. 
  • Organize and analyze field data and prepare accurate and detailed reports and records.
  • Learn, practice, and promote ALL safety policies and procedures 100% of the time. 
  • Apply various codes, requirements, regulations, policies, and procedures to all assigned work. 
  • Use various design software and work management tools. 
  • Evaluate distribution equipment such as transformers and fusing. 
  • Follow utility construction practices on public right of way (ROW) and private land. 
  • Regularly communicate job status to assure client expectations and deliverable dates are met. 
  • Coordinate with construction personnel and clients to resolve any project issues.  
  • Develop relationships with key internal and external customers while supporting both company and client’s business goals and expectations while representing themselves both positively and professionally. 
  • Maintain files and records in an organized manner. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management 
Required:
  • Strong Customer Service Focused background
  • Strong Computer Skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Reliable Transportation for use on the rare occasion a visit to a site may be required to take pictures and measurements.
