Data Management Technician - Fiber Network Records

Job Description


Overview:
We are currently seeking a Data Management Technician to join a long-term fiber system records project located in Chattanooga, TN. This individual will support updates and maintenance of fiber records and serve as a liaison between design and field teams. The role is best suited for someone with fiber drafting experience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while supporting field technicians and engineering staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain accurate graphical and tabular records of a fiber telecommunications system

  • Update fiber data using internal data management tools and GIS-based software

  • Assist field technicians with fiber trouble calls by providing accurate system records and updates

  • Ensure accurate customer data is reflected in the system for outage management and service planning

  • Prioritize and manage various tickets, premise fixes, audit requests, and job postings/closings

  • Coordinate with sales and field personnel to verify outside plant infrastructure

  • Submit internal reports as needed and support system upgrades through beta testing

  • Provide timely documentation and maintain a high level of accuracy under limited supervision

Required Qualifications:

  • 1+ year of experience in fiber drafting or telecom design

  • Ability to read and interpret electric and fiber outside plant maps, design drawings, and related documents

  • Strong understanding of fiber and electric distribution systems or ability to learn quickly

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to work onsite and support field team communications professionally and promptly

  • Self-motivated, dependable, and capable of managing workload independently

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior work with GIS/fiber mapping tools

  • Previous telecom drafting or utility CAD work

  • Experience supporting field crews or serving in a help desk-style capacity for field issues

Why This Role?
This is a long-term project with a high-growth engineering services firm. You'll play a key role in supporting the operation and modernization of a major regional telecom network. Candidates who perform well in the first 6 months will be considered for direct hire with the engineering services firm for the remainder of the contract.

Location: Chattanooga, TN
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
Pay Rate: $25.00 – $28.00/hr. (W2)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (some weekend work required)
Work Environment: 100% onsite – No remote or hybrid options
Term: Long-term contract (3 years) with opportunity for direct hire after 6 months
Sponsorship: Not available – must be a U.S. citizen or Green Card holder
Travel: Minimal (some local travel may occur)
