Job Description


We are currently working with a client to find a Controls Engineer with a background in panel layout, creating schematics, mechanical drawings for panel cutouts, developing bills of material and component selection.

Pay Range: $31-41/hr
Temp to Perm
Hartland, WI


Job Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers to conceptualize, develop, carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits 
  • Design, build, implement, troubleshoot & debug factory floor automation 
  • Develop electrical schematics with a modular systematic approach
  • Architect, write, and debug PLC ladder logic with an emphasis on generating code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable
  • Program machines for complex processes which involve multi-station parallel processing, pick and place automation, data acquisition, and PID control. Proven ability to design fault-tolerant systems with error handling and recovery
  • Generate aesthetically simple HMI screens for complex machinery while providing sufficient feedback for troubleshooting
  • Create and maintain symbol libraries for standard electrical components
  • Specify fusing, motor protection, sensors, relays, contactors etc., ensure BOMs are complete and all information for purchasing and production is documented
  • Configure VFD, PLC, and HMIs
  • Work with programmers and field service technicians to refine design, troubleshoot systems in-house and in the field.

Required:
  • Associates Degree (Electrical/Electronics) or higher
  • 5+ years in panel design and component specification
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical
  • Proficiency using Solidworks or another similar 3D modeling program
  • Previous experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs
  • Understand UL 508, CE and CSA requirements as they apply to industrial control systems
  • Familiar with “best practices” regarding voltage segregation and wire routing in panels and raceways
  • Total comprehension of automation components, wiring practices and how they are interconnected; including PLC, VFD, HMI, servos, analog signals, digital signals, transformers, MCPs, relays, fusing etc.
  • Complete understanding of servo motion, including coordinated motion, motion profiles, camming, gearing, etc.
  • Strong electrical engineering experience including component specification, sizing, panel layout, servos, AC/DC drives, networks, etc.
  • Understanding of Ethernet communications
  • Good problem solver with the ability to analyze information

Preferred:
  • BSEE
  • Previous experience with Allen-Bradley Conpact Logix PLC’s
  • Previous experience with Panel View Plus HMIs
  • Previous experience with Siemens PLCs
  • Experience with assembly of custom automation equipment in the food or pharmaceutical industry 
  • A solid mechanical aptitude
  • Knowledge of robotics
