Job Description
Construction Manager, Commercial / Retail
(Knoxville, TN, Ohio, and surrounding areas)
A very unique and rapidly-growing engineering-construction consulting company has an immediate need for a commercial Construction Manager for their Tennessee and Ohio operations.
The Construction Manager Responsibilities Include:
* Overall, responsible for preconstruction and construction project leadership for commercial, retail, restaurant, hospitality, or similar design-build projects
* Manage multiple commercial / retail new construction and renovation projects
* Collaborate, coordinate, negotiate, and communicate with leadership, engineering, architects, subcontractors, suppliers, and customers/owners/partners as needed to deliver quality construction on time and on budget
* Evaluate site feasibility including building access, delivery access, general program requirements, etc.
* Create and perform construction estimates for capital project requests and other miscellaneous projects
* Create and track project budgets from initial concept through project close out
* Oversee building, delivery, and schedule approvals of developers, owners, and customers
* Review and approve building plans, drawings, and scope
* Lead weekly meetings to keep stakeholders updated on scope, schedule, permitting, budget, etc.
* Responsible for on-site construction supervision including oversight of contractors, owner, vendors, etc.
* Collaborate on the design development process to value engineer construction methods, reduce time and cost, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
* B.S. Degree, Engineering, Construction, or similar technical/scientific discipline
* Knowledge and proficiency with local/regional building codes, construction specifications, construction practices, etc.
* 3+ years of commercial, retail, restaurant, hospitality, or similar preconstruction and construction project leadership experience
* Ability to travel throughout North America up to 50%

John is originally from the Tidewater Virginia area and moved to Georgia for college where he majored in Electronics Engineering Technology. For fifteen years, he worked in television news broadcast engineering where he worked his way into technical project management until a layoff. After a few years operating a small business franchise, he found his way into an engineering and technical recruiting career where he could apply his technical and customer service backgrounds in a new industry for the next fifteen plus years to present day. His education and work experience as a technical project manager provides him unique insight into a variety of roles and success in finding great candidates for his clients.
